Koh Lipe’s beaches
Koh Lipe has three main beaches: Sunset Beach (Hat Pramong), Sunrise Beach (Hat Chao Ley) and Pattaya Beach2. Sunrise Beach is on the east side, and the smaller Sunset Beach is on the west1.
- Pattaya Beach: the island’s main beach and arrival point3, with more nightlife than the other beaches1.
- Sunrise Beach: the one for sunrise views2. The Urak Lawoi villages are mostly on the far east side, near Sunrise Beach1.
- Sunset Beach: the best beach for sunset views1, and a place to spend a whole day without many people4.
Sunrise Beach and Sunset Beach meet on the northwest coast1, where Wikivoyage places Irene Resort. Karma Beach is also in the north of the island and faces the channel between Ko Adang and Ko Lipe1.
The map also has smaller spots from Google Maps: North Point Beach, Bulow Beach, Lipe Secret Beach, Pantai Galah Beach, Daya Beach and the sand bar. To pick the right one for your stay, compare them on Koh Lipe’s beaches.
Where is Walking Street?
Walking Street is the narrow pedestrian lane that crosses Koh Lipe from Pattaya Beach to Sunrise Beach5. Walking it from one coast to the other takes about ten minutes5.
You’ll come back to Walking Street more than once:
- Errands: the pharmacy, the ATMs and the ferry agents5 are all on it.
- Dinner: after dark, seafood grills are set up outside the restaurants5.
- Another sight on the map: Samnaksong Han Talay, which Google Maps lists as a Buddhist temple6.
What’s on the lane, and the other sights near it, is on Koh Lipe Walking Street.
Viewpoints and waterfalls on Ko Adang
The viewpoints and waterfalls on the map are not on Lipe itself. Koh Lipe lies directly south of the larger islands Ko Adang and Ko Rawi2, and Wikivoyage puts Pirate Falls, a 90-minute hike each way, and Chado Cliff1 on Ko Adang.
- Chado Cliff Viewpoint 3: Google Maps lists it as an observation deck, at an address on Ko Adang6.
- Pirate Waterfall: one of Ko Adang’s waterfalls, in a hilly interior covered in dense jungle7.
- Viewpoint of Koh Adang and Koh Adang Waterfall: two more places on the map named after the island, the first listed as an observation deck6.
- Ko Usen: a stop on boat trips to nearby islands and reefs2.
Which beach is closest to the pier?
Pattaya Beach is closest: it’s the island’s main beach and arrival point3. Speedboats arrive at a floating plastic pontoon pier, built in January 20241, and Akira Lipe says the longtail from the pontoon to the beach costs 50 baht per person and takes 5–10 minutes9 (checked October 2026).
Getting around Koh Lipe
You can cover all of Ko Lipe on foot1. There are no cars, so people get around on foot or by motorbike sidecar5, and narrow concrete roads link the beaches1.
- Pattaya Beach to Sunrise Beach: about ten minutes5 along Walking Street.
- Sanom Beach to Sunrise Beach: Sanom Beach is a short walk from Pattaya Beach1, and the resort there puts Sunrise Beach a 15-minute walk10 away.
- Motorbike taxi: Castaway Resort says one to its Sunrise Beach resort costs 50 baht per person11.
Boats to Lipe run from Langkawi and Pak Bara, each taking about 1.5 hours1. Times, fares and booking tips are on how to get to Koh Lipe and the Langkawi to Koh Lipe ferry page.
